Tax-Cut Plans
* Robert Borosage (Column Left, “Take From the Poor, Give to the Rich,”June 26) attempts to portray the current Republican tax bill as unfair because it gives 87% of its benefits to the wealthiest 20% of Americans.
However, Borosage fails to point out that the wealthiest 20% of Americans pay 87% of the taxes. Where’s the unfairness?

* Re the June 23 story by Art Pine about how the tax cuts will eventually increase the deficit:
There’s really no moral justification for such a plan--but it does make a certain kind of sense. Congress and the president need to reduce taxes so that the richer-than-ever corporations can continue to finance their political campaigns. Maybe we really do live in Alice’s wonderland.
