Veteran Educator Louis G. Zeyen Dies

Louis G. Zeyen, veteran educator and onetime superintendent of the former Alamitos School District, died June 16 in Santa Cruz. He was 75.
A memorial service for Zeyen is planned for July 19 at 2 p.m. in the Garden Grove Friends Church, 12211 Magnolia St.
Zeyen served as superintendent of the Alamitos School District for the 12 years before it was consolidated into Garden Grove Unified. Dr. Louis G. Zeyen Elementary School in Garden Grove was named for the administrator when it opened in 1960.
After the 1965 unification decision, Zeyen was appointed deputy superintendent in charge of maintenance and operations. He left the district in 1966 to become superintendent of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District.
After that, he worked as deputy executive director of the Virginia-based American Assn. of School Administrators from 1973 until his retirement in 1982.
