Two Oxnard men were in the Ventura County Jail on Wednesday awaiting arraignment on drug and weapon charges.

David Pardee, 26, and Juan Campos, 27, were arrested Tuesday morning at a motel on East Channel Islands Boulevard by Oxnard police, said Sgt. Tim Combs.

Patrol officers Joe Johnson and Bakari Myers went to the motel after receiving reports that Pardee, for whom police had an outstanding warrant, had checked into a room, Combs said.

While arresting Pardee, officers discovered methamphetamine, scales, packaging materials and a loaded .380-caliber handgun, police said. In the parking lot the officers found Campos waiting in a car. In the back seat, police said, they found a 9-millimeter semiautomatic handgun with a laser sight and a large amount of methamphetamine.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a firearm during a narcotics transaction, officials said.

Along with more than 4 ounces of methamphetamine, officers confiscated the scales and packaging materials, cellular phones, pagers, spare ammunition for the guns and about $3,000, police said.
