Ten graduating seniors have been honored by the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross as outstanding youth volunteers for the 1996-97 school year.

“Our youth volunteers do amazing work,” said Penny Hughes, a Red Cross director. “The 10 youth volunteers we are recognizing . . . not only have devoted over 500 volunteer hours but also they have done exceptional work. They have gone above and beyond.”

The award recipients are:

* Olive Chiang, Corona del Mar High School, president of the school’s Red Cross Club and member of youth AIDS programs.

* Stacey Woo, Villa Park High School, president of the school’s Red Cross Club and blood drive coordinator.

* Robert Miyashiro, Garden Grove High School, president of the school’s Red Cross Club and emergency volunteer.

* Rithy Sim-leng, Foothill High School, Tustin, a Red Cross and Youth in Emergency Services volunteer for four years.

* Hara Bastas of Huntington Beach High School, president of the school’s Red Cross Club and blood drive coordinator.

* Sornya Ponrartana, Foothill High School, an emergency volunteer and coordinator for the 1996 Holiday Project that collected new toys for needy children.

* Brad Robertson, Villa Park High School, an emergency volunteer, disaster staffing and blood drive coordinator.

* Brian Hoang, University High School, Irvine, active in youth AIDS programs.

* Harini Reddy, University High School, Irvine, a volunteer in youth AIDS programs and winner of a national AIDS fund Caring Counts Award.

* Sead Bekric, Anaheim High School, a Red Cross volunteer, motivational speaker and ambassador.
