Students in Liberty Acres Area Eligible for Transfers

Beginning this fall, students living in the Liberty Acres neighborhood will be allowed to apply for transfers to attend schools in the Wiseburn School District in Hawthorne.

The Lawndale school board has voted to grant transfers to any student in the neighborhood who wants to attend school in the neighboring district. Many parents want their children to be able to attend Wiseburn schools because they are more accessible.

Rosecrans Avenue, a major thoroughfare in the South Bay, separates the neighborhood from Lawndale schools. Many parents are concerned about their children crossing the busy street.

Wiseburn Supt. Don Brann said about 20 students living in Liberty Acres attended schools in the district this past year. He said new permit applicants will be considered on a space-available basis.
