Secrecy in Arena Deal

Share

Re “Wall of Secrecy Surrounds Key Part of Arena Deal,” June 30: Thank you, Bill Boyarsky, for picking up the torch on the entire Los Angeles Arena situation. Although I wrote to my council representative (Laura Chick) a few months ago asking for some reasons why the taxpayers should help support those poor millionaires build a third arena in the Los Angeles area, the response I got was a nice thank you for your interest and we are looking into it.

There are so many questions and I hope Boyarsky can find a few good answers. If the council continues to support these big builders in secrecy, maybe the public could secretly start some recall petitions.

I always knew the seats on the floor at a Laker game were expensive, but $70 million is a lot of money. I hope the council doesn’t have to pay extra if the team gets into the playoffs.

* A referendum should be held on a new Laker/Kings arena next to the Convention Center. This would let the public decide whether to spend $70-plus million of our taxpayer money supporting this private deal. Also, more information could and would be brought out about this transaction.

What percentage of the fans would be from Los Angeles? Spectators would probably be from the higher economic class. Many would receive seats from business interests, which would call it a business expense.

The people and their representatives need more information.
