“Nature of the Night” is the theme for an outdoor series to begin Friday at Gen. Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park.
The first session will assemble several local astronomers who will use telescopes to offer views of the stars and planets. Led by Val Akins, the workshop will also include information about galaxies and discussion of the Pathfinder expedition to Mars.
The astronomers will also offer tips on how to use telescopes at home.
Park rangers advise participants to bring lounge chairs, warm clothing and flashlights. The session will be from 8 to 10 p.m. The cost is $4 for teens and adults and free for those 12 and younger.
The topic for the second program, scheduled for July 26, will be myths about bats.
The park is at the end of Oso Parkway about six miles east of Interstate 5.
