Stan Rojek, whose eight-year career included four major league teams and a locker alongside Jackie Robinson, has died after a long illness in North Tonawanda, N.Y. He was 78.

Rojek broke into the major leagues in 1942 when he played one game for the Brooklyn Dodgers but never had an official at-bat. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II and returned to the Dodgers in 1946 as a utility infielder.

In 1947, Rojek played a significant role in the Dodgers’ pennant drive when he played 18 games while filling in for injured shortstop Pee Wee Reese and second baseman Eddie Stanky.
