Camarillo Wins on the Double

Jeff Bannon doubled home Tony Murphy to break a tie in the top of the seventh inning and give Camarillo A a 5-4 victory over Conejo in a District 16 game Thursday at Thousand Oaks High.

Murphy hit a leadoff double and went to third on a groundout by Charles Merricks.

Murphy had three hits, scored two runs and stole two bases.

Joe Borchard also had three hits, including a solo home run in the third inning. Borchard earned his second save after coming in with the tying run on second with none out in the bottom of the seventh. He struck out the first two batters and got a pop-up to end the game.

Jake Kor (3-0) gave up one earned run, struck out six and walked two in six innings.

Camarillo A (18-3) has won four consecutive games.

Newbury Park 9, Ventura 3--Danny Greene had two hits and put Newbury Park ahead for good with a two-run triple that broke a 2-2 tie in the second inning of a District 16 game at Newbury Park High.

Ryan Ayers had two hits for Newbury Park (10-6-1).

Royal 9, Westlake 7--Tyrone Kimbrough had two hits, including a three-run home run that broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning for Royal in a District 16 game at Royal High.

Bobby Egan had two hits, walked twice and drove in a run, and Buzz Byer had two hits and an RBI for Royal (14-3).

Antelope Valley North 6, Antelope Valley South 5--Mario Varela was three for three and Jason Boyett hit a two-run double in the top of sixth inning for Antelope Valley North (20-4) in a District 20 game at Rosamond High.

Antelope Valley South (15-8) trailed, 6-1, but got a one-out grand slam by Brett Roth in the bottom of the sixth.

Varela came in and allowed just one hit over the last 1 2/3 innings for his first save.

Valley North 8, Granada Hills West 0--Mike Kunes (7-0) pitched a two-hitter--both hits coming in the second inning--with four strikeouts for Valley North in a District 20 game at Chatsworth High.

Micah Berger was three for three with three RBIs for Valley North (18-5). Tom Morefield and Tim Weigand each had two hits and drove in two runs for Valley North.

Valencia 8, San Fernando 3--Brady Burrill went four for four, including a two-run double and a home run for Valencia (17-7) in a District 20 game at Valencia High.

Chris Northway (3-2) allowed eight hits and three earned runs, struck out four and walked two in five innings and got help from center fielder Dave Roberts, who made two diving catches to end scoring chances.

Edgar Esqueda had two hits for San Fernando (7-15).

Panorama City 7, Studio City South 4--Evan Lovett, Joe Nocera and Victor Hall each had two hits for Panorama City in a District 20 game at Monroe High.

Lovett hit a solo homer for Panorama City (16-6-1).

Saugus 10, Sunland Tujunga 5--Brent Pellico singled home Ryan Sage to break a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning and hit a two-run home run in the fifth to help Saugus rally from a four-run deficit in a District 20 game at Saugus High.

Josh Underwood and Ron Clark each had three hits and one RBI, and Sage had two hits and three stolen bases and scored three runs for Saugus (10-12).

Central Valley 8, Granada Hills East 2--Justin Savitt, Vince Zuniga and Chris Coleman each had two hits for Central Valley (17-5) in a District 20 game at Kennedy High.
