Board to Hear Report on Summer School
With summer session underway, school board members Monday will receive a progress report on the 1997 program.
Capistrano Unified is offering students in kindergarten through 12th grade an opportunity to enroll in a variety of courses. More than 5,600 students are enrolled in classes at 13 different campuses.
“It’s going very smoothly,” summer school coordinator Peggy Swanson said. “It’s pretty amazing how many students are involved.”
At the middle and high school levels, students are offered core academic subjects, proficiency-deficient classes, Freshman Focus for at-risk high school freshmen, Fresh Start/Learning Center for students who need to make up classes, special-education extended-year classes and Seventh-Inning Stretch for at-risk sixth- and seventh-grade students.
The programs are offered to students at Aliso Niguel and Dana Hills high schools as well as at Marco F. Forster, Shorecliffs and Niguel Hills middle schools.
Eight of the district’s elementary schools are also having summer school.
Monday’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the district office, 32972 Calle Perfecto.
