SAT Prep Course Offered at College

If local high school students are traveling toward the Scholastic Assessment Test at a fixed speed of X, how can they reduce their anxiety before reaching the Oct. 4 test date?

They might do so by enrolling in a 30-hour SAT preparation course beginning Monday, officials at Golden West College said.

The seminars are designed to increase students’ confidence and vocabulary, and to reduce anxiety by offering tips and test strategies.

The Huntington Beach college is offering the seminars in conjunction with Ivy West Educational Services, a test-preparation group. The program is consistent with recommendations of the College Board, which administers the SAT, the nation’s most widely used college admission exam.

The test, next scheduled for Oct. 4, measures math, verbal and critical thinking skills.

The sessions will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays from Monday through Aug. 14; and from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays from July 25 through Aug. 8. The course fee is $250, which includes materials.
