Marguerite Esmond Abdelnour; Dance Teacher

Marguerite Esmond Abdelnour, a resident of Camarillo’s Leisure Village for the past 22 years, died Thursday in Long Beach. She was 86.

She was born May 24, 1911, in Pittsburgh. At Leisure Village she was known as a demanding dance teacher and had established the Swing Dance Group with her husband, Edward. She kept the group alive after his death, until she became too ill to participate.

Abdelnour also founded the Leisure Village Dance Workshop, where she taught line dancing, performed Mexican and hula dances and participated in dance troupes called the Belles and Rythemettes.

Survivors include three daughters, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at Pierce Brothers Griffin Chapel, Camarillo.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel in Ventura with Msgr. John Hughes officiating.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
