Obituaries : Herbert B. Lamb; Returned to Ojai as Retiree

Share

Herbert B. Lamb, a retired production supervisor with Dow Chemical, died Thursday after a short illness. He was 89.

Lamb, who spent 39 years with Dow Chemical, returned to his boyhood home of Ojai during his retirement. His father was a stagecoach driver in Ojai when the community was known as Nordhoff, and he had a strong affection for the area, Lamb’s wife said.

“But it wasn’t practical to work here,” Doris Lamb said. “The work wasn’t here.”

Herbert Lamb’s family moved from Ojai when he was a young boy, and he lived in several Los Angeles County communities as an adult. He loved to travel and was proud to have visited all 50 states. In his travels, Lamb made many friends.

“He had a list of people he would send birthday cards to,” Doris Lamb said. “I think it’s 32 names long.”

The couple were married in 1979 and lived in an Ojai mobile home park. They had no children.

Herbert Lamb is survived by his wife; a sister, Margaret Patricia McNamara of Lewes, Del.; and a nephew, David H. Weir, of Manhattan Beach.

No services are planned. Cremation and scattering of ashes at sea are under the direction of the Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.
