GTE Network Services has named Dave Bowman president of GTE California, replacing M.L. “Red” Keith Jr., who has been promoted to senior vice president of regional operations in Irving, Texas.

Bowman has been acting president of GTE California for several weeks.

In his new position, Bowman is responsible for installation, repair, network reliability, inventory and cost management for the region’s 4.8 million customer-access lines. Bowman also will serve as GTE’s chief customer and community relations advocate and lead liaison to the California Public Utilities Commission.

Bowman joined GTE in 1964 and was named a division manager in 1994. Later that year he moved to the company’s Irving headquarters as director of regional operations administration, and in 1996 he was named director of remote operations support.
