Justice Will Prevail in This Election

Three L.A. lawyers are running in District 7 for the State Bar of California’s Board of Governors. Their qualifications? Well, if you look at the “public record of discipline” category in their official biographies, you find that:

One candidate was “disbarred by California Supreme Court (1975) [and] reinstated by California Supreme Court (1992).”

Another candidate is facing, among other things, “pending and subject to review and approval by the California Supreme Court, a recommendation of 18 months suspension, stayed; three years probation with the condition of 120 days actual suspension and payment of restitution . . . attendance at Ethics School within one year; and award of costs to State Bar.”

The third candidate, Clara Slifkin, has an unblemished record.

One out of three.

The profession hasn’t been the same since TV’s “L.A. Law” was canceled.

DAZE OF THE WEEK: On opposite sides of the globe, Robert Luth and Vince Egnozzi found indications that not everyone is certain that Wednesday is a day of the week (see photos). Luth, of Oxnard, took his shot in front of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Egnozzi, of Rowland Heights, took his shot at Knott’s Berry Farm, where he once worked. He adds, “I never found out the reason for the . . . ‘including Wed. and Thur.’ ” portion of the sign.

WHAT’S NOT IN A NAME: The Times’ Bob Pool reported the other day that the folks in La Canada Flintridge aren’t happy about the fact that, though the Jet Propulsion Laboratory is in their city, Pasadena is often given credit as JPL’s home.

Similar disparities abound where romantic names have been substituted for the real locations.

* The Getty Museum on Pacific Coast Highway claims to be in Malibu but is in Pacific Palisades.

* The Beverly Hills Country Club is in West Los Angeles.

* The Brooklyn Bagel Bakery is in L.A.

* Hollywood Park is in Inglewood.

* West Coast Video is in Philadelphia.

* And, of course, Universal Studios-Hollywood is in Universal City. Just as accurate to call it Universal Studios-North Hollywood.

L.A. TRIVIATA: Three men who started out in the dental profession but are known for other accomplishments in Southern California:

* Author Zane Grey, who lived in Avalon, Santa Catalina Island.

* Baseball manager Casey Stengel, who also owned a bank in Glendale.

* Sheep rancher David Burbank, for whom the city of Burbank is named.

YOU THINK LEAF BLOWERS ARE BAD: Downtown L.A. resident Morgan Lyons received a notice from the L.A. Film Office, informing him that the makers of a new “Godzilla” movie would be shooting on 9th Street, between Main and Broadway.

More than one kind of shooting.

There would also be: “Driving scenes . . . car crashes . . . rain/lightning/smoke/fog mist effects . . . tanks and military vehicles in street . . . full-load automatic gunfire . . . [and] talent running in street.”

It must be comforting to the “talent” to know that all those acting lessons paid off.

miscelLAny:

In his biography of filmmaker Steven Spielberg, Joseph McBride has a stunning revelation. When Spielberg attended Cal State Long Beach, he received a C in a TV production course. Did Spielberg disclose this on his application to be a DreamWorks mogul?
