Hot-Shooting Starzz Upset the Liberty
The WNBA had its biggest upset of the season Tuesday night as the visiting Utah Starzz, led by a league-record seven three-point baskets from Russian center Elena Baranova, defeated the New York Liberty, 78-71.
It was the first home loss in seven games for the Liberty, whose 12-3 overall record remains the best in the league. Utah improved the league’s worst record to 4-11.
Baranova (23 points) broke a record of six held by two players.
Houston 77, Phoenix 69--Cynthia Cooper broke her own league record with 32 points as the Comets (9-5) stopped the Mercury (8-4) at Phoenix.
Cooper, who had set the previous mark Friday night with a 30-point performance against Sacramento, was eight for 12.
