My Favorite Weekend

On the Scene: Friday night is a night to check out live music around town. I find myself at Spaceland and the Alligator Lounge a lot. I like Spaceland because it’s a no-attitude kind of place. A lot of places are more about being seen, and I’m just looking to find good music.

Rock Around the Clock: Usually I stay out too late. If there is an after-hours thing, I’ll try to find that. Mostly, I just prowl around and try to find interesting spots off the beaten path. I’ll go to the Valley, down Ventura, explore the underbelly of Hollywood and shake down places on Main Street in Santa Monica and Venice.

Daylight Comes Again: I love having an early lunch with my kids, Luka, 4, and Marieke, 5 1/2, at Kokomo at the Farmer’s Market. They love running around while we’re waiting for a table.

When the Music Stops: El Matador State Beach in Malibu is my escape route. It’s good quality time for my family. My kids love to make sand castles and play in the surf. Also, a lot of weekends we go to Ojai and stay with friends. We take scooters out and try to stay outside as much as possible.

Day Tripper: Sundays are lazy mornings, but then we like to take day trips. Recently, we’ve been to Laguna Beach and Santa Barbara. We’re going to Catalina in a few weeks. We love to explore Southern California.

Family Night: Our favorite is going to La Fonda Restaurant in MacArthur Park to see Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. They are the greatest I’ve ever come across.
