Leadership Academy Taking Applications
The United Way of Ventura County is accepting applications for its Ventura County Leadership Academy, a program that trains aspiring community leaders to enhance the quality of life in the county. The new submission deadline is Thursday.
The program--which will run from late September through May--includes field trips and seminars relating to local issues in agriculture, economic development, military, education, governance, health, housing, nonprofit organizations, volunteerism and public safety.
Executive Director Harry Lee said the academy is seeking applicants in their 20s through 50s who represent all aspects of the county, including geography, ethnicity and occupation.
The training begins with a three-day session, followed by Friday meetings once a month. Retreats will include visits to Sacramento and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, where academy trainees will study the Legislature and Southern California’s water supply issues.
Lee said he expects academy members to apply their experiences to their individual communities, improving the lives of county residents.
