$500,000 Grant Helps Reopen Health Clinic

A former county-run health clinic in Paramount that closed during last year’s cutbacks has reopened thanks to a $500,000 grant scheduled to be announced today by officials from Charles R. Drew University.

The grant from Baxter Allegiance Foundation, a McGaw Park, Ill.-based medical equipment supplier, also will allow the university to reopen Compton’s Dollarhide Health Center by the fall, said Dr. James Kyle, Drew’s chief medical officer. Dollarhide and Paramount Health Center were closed because of last year’s county budget crisis.

In a limited partnership with the county, the Watts-based university plans to offer a full range of medical services at both centers, Kyle said.
