The Angels may consider playing some spring training games in Mexicali, Mexico, if the Mexicali Eagles build a stadium that meets major league specifications.

The Angels picked up their two-year option with the Mexicali team, which plays in the Mexican Winter League.

The Angels have exclusive rights to the Mexicali team. In return, the Eagles receive players.

Mexicali officials met with Angel officials Thursday, hoping to improve the deal. They want some financial help and technical advice in building their 16,000-seat, $8-million stadium, which team officials hope to have ready by the winter of 1998.

Team President Alberto Murillo said he hoped the Angels would agree to play a few weekend games during spring training once the stadium is completed. Ken Forsch, the Angels’ director of player personnel, said the team is open to such a suggestion.
