America Online Inc. said it won’t share information about how its customers use the online service, in a second reversal of policy after Thursday’s decision not to give out phone numbers. In a proposal for a new customer contract, AOL had said it planned to track what customers buy online for marketing partners. The company said Friday that it never intended to include the plan in the new contract and will remove it. On Thursday, AOL backed away from plans to give customers’ phone numbers to marketing partners after criticism from subscribers and privacy advocates. The No. 1 online service introduced the new marketing policies as part of recent agreements with online advertisers. The company declined to say how the proposal mistakenly was included in the updated contract. The latest gaffes risk alienating customers, analysts said. The Dulles, Va.-based company said it will post a new contract proposal online soon. AOL shares fell $1.06 to close at $64.19 on the New York Stock Exchange.
