San Jose’s Hogan 1st to 9th Station in Race Across America

Seana Hogan of San Jose was the first cyclist to pass through Station 9 in St. George, Utah, on the second day of the Race Across America, which started Thursday in Irvine.

Hogan, 37, who was the women’s RAAM winner from 1992-95, reached the station at 4:14 p.m. (EDT) Friday. She is averaging 16.7 mph and 401 miles daily.

Kaname Sakurai, of Nagoya, Japan, leads the men with an average of 389 miles per day. He reached Station 9 in St. George, at 5:04 p.m. (EDT) Friday. Defending champion Danny Chew, 36, of Pittsburgh, was the second solo men’s rider to reach Station 9, at 5:25 p.m. (EDT). He is averaging 16 mph and 384 miles per day. Wolfgang Fasching, 29, of Goritz, Austria, also reached Station 9 at 5:25 p.m. Rob Kish, of Port Orange, Fla., who won the race in 1992, ’94 and ‘95, reached the station at 5:34 p.m. (EDT).

In the men’s 50-plus division, Tom Davis Jr. of Paradise, Calif., reached Station 8 in Mesquite, Nev., at 5:55 p.m. (EDT). His sole competitor in the division, Michael Wilson of Saratoga, Calif., reached Station 7 (Overton, Nev.) at 5:01 p.m. (EDT).
