Dick Walsh

I am a former employee of the Convention Center. Your July 18 article on Dick Walsh’s resignation unfairly represents the distinguished career of a dedicated, honest, well-respected public servant.

If you looked a little bit harder and a little bit further you would find: Bookings at the Convention Center are more the result of the image of L.A. itself as a convention destination, a City Council booking policy and the marketing efforts of the L.A. Visitors and Convention Bureau, an independent body not under the control of the Convention Center general manager.

Walsh is acknowledged as one of the top experts, if not the top expert, in his field by convention center managers across the country. Walsh’s integrity and honesty are unquestioned by those who have worked with him and are the cornerstone of his entire philosophy about public service.

When your story is long forgotten, the new Convention Center will still stand as a testament to Walsh’s vision, leadership and commitment to the people of Los Angeles.
