Galaxy update--Freedom is the key word as the Galaxy rides a four-game winning streak into Denver. “We’re playing with a lot more freedom now,” said Cobi Jones, who has four goals and five assists in the last five games. “We feel really sound right now, and that’s a nice feeling to have,” defender Paul Caligiuri said after Friday night’s 3-0 victory against the Burn at Dallas. The Galaxy has outscored opponents, 19-7, in its last seven games. It lost, 2-1, to the Rapids at Mile High Stadium on June 21.

Rapid update--Outshot, 20-10, by the San Jose Clash, the Rapids nevertheless managed a 2-1 victory at San Jose on Friday night to stay six points ahead of the Galaxy in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference. Coach Glen “Mooch” Myernick was ejected from that game for “vigorously protesting a call” and will serve a one-game suspension today. Assistant Rene Miramontes will be in charge. The Rapids are led offensively by Paul Bravo (seven goals, four assists) and Chris Henderson (four goals, nine assists). U.S. national team veteran Marcelo Balboa of Cerritos anchors the defense.
