Vigilantes Hang On to Defeat Salinas, 6-4

The Vigilantes survived a ninth-inning Salinas rally to edge the Peppers, 6-4, in a Western Baseball League game Saturday at Salinas Municipal Stadium.

Kurt Kishita came on in relief for the Vigilantes in the ninth and pitched himself into a two-out bases-loaded situation. Mike Moutrey made a running catch at the warning track on Bodie Shepherd’s deep fly ball to left center to end the threat. It was Kishita’s seventh save.

Carl Nichols hit a leadoff solo homer in the seventh to put the Vigilantes on top, 5-4.

Scott Singleton gave up four runs--three earned--on 10 hits. He issued two walks and struck out six for the Vigilantes. Singleton improved his season record to 5-6.

Sam Taylor hit his 14th homer of the season for the Vigilantes, a leadoff solo shot in the fourth.

Bret Barberie was two for three and scored twice for the Vigilantes.
