School Will Install Cameras to Deter Vandals
School officials plan to install a video camera system at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach to prevent vandalism such as the senior class prank that left the campus covered with manure, hay, and chickens last spring.
The $38,000 system, with video cameras in the school’s three parking lots and east and west hallways, will serve as a test to determine how well it works, said Darlene Gorey, director of business and administrative services for Manhattan Beach Unified School District.
If successful, video cameras may also be installed in the district’s other schools, Gorey said.
