Undercover police swarmed a suspected methamphetamine laboratory in an apartment complex Wednesday night, where at least three officers were overcome by fumes.

Police said about 10 undercover officers raided the lab at 12112 Adrian St., a complex with 402 apartment units.

As the officers arrived with search warrants at 10:40 p.m., three suspects fled the apartment on foot, Sgt. Bump Willis said. Police caught them outside the apartment building, he said. The names of the suspects, two men and a woman, were not immediately available.

Meanwhile, at least three officers were overcome by fumes and were expected to be taken to a local hospital as a precaution, Bump said. The adjacent apartments also were evacuated, although there were no other immediate reports of injuries.

David Miller, who lives across the street, said he “saw motorcycles and police cars with cop lights and no sirens barreling down the street.” A few seconds later, he heard police shouting, “Get on the ground,” as the suspects were arrested.

Willis said the raid followed a two-week undercover investigation.
