Quance Wins by Herself and With a Little Help

Kristine Quance of Granada Hills won the 200-meter individual medley and swam the second leg as the Trojan Swim Club took the 400 medley relay at the Phillips 66 U.S. National Swimming Championships in Nashville on Wednesday night.

Quance won the 200 IM in a career-best 2:13.55, defeating Maddy Crippen of Philadelphia by nearly two seconds.

The Trojan Swim Club took the lead in the team standings by winning the relay in 4:14.59

Jennifer Parmenter of Granada Hills finished ninth in the 200 IM preliminaries, missing a spot in the final by one spot. She did not swim in the consolation finals.

Gore again: Jason Gore of Valencia holds a one-shot lead over Steve Sheehan of Northern Nevada after two rounds of the Pacific Coast Amateur on the South course at Makena Golf Club in Maui, Hawaii.

Gore finished with a 71 and a two-round total of 140.

The Southern California Golf Assn. team of Gore, Craig Steinberg of Van Nuys and Mark Johnson of Helendale holds a four-shot lead in the team standings.

Jason Semelsberger of Newhall shot a 75 in the first round of the Western Amateur at Point O’Woods Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich. David Gossett and Kyle Thompson share the lead at 67.

Russell Surber of Flintridge is six shots behind with an even-par 144 after two rounds of the American Junior Golf Assn. Boys Junior Championship at the Trophy Club (Texas) Country Club.

J.T. Kohut of Simi Valley, who led at 68 in the first round, had a 79 and is nine shots back along with Jonathan Ohye of Calabasas.

Alicia Um of Newbury Park lost to Courtney Swaim of Duluth, Ga., in the 22nd hole of match play in the U.S. Girls’ Junior amateur championship at the Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.

More for Moorpark: The Moorpark College men’s soccer team has added nine players and former Chatsworth High boys’ coach Desmond Willows as assistant coach for the 1997 season, Coach Frank Parodi said.

New players include Tom Barany and Matt Jensen (Camarillo High), Alan Carr, Mario Vargas and Alan Milin (Newbury Park), Chris Devine (Westlake), Pat Russo (Moorpark, Ohio Wesleyan), Shane Sanders (Montclair Prep) and Mike Wright (Chaminade, Oregon State).
