SLM Big Daddy Wins at Los Alamitos
Winalota Cash’s efforts to become quarter-horse racing’s second $2 million winner were put on hold Saturday night at Los Alamitos Racecourse as SLM Big Daddy won the $250,000 MBNA Challenge Championship.
Winalota Cash, who needed a victory to join Refrigerator as quarter-horse racing’s only $2 million winners, was third under Joe Badilla. Heza Ramblin Man, winner of the Los Alamitos Championship, was second.
Jacky Martin rode SLM Big Daddy to victory from the rail post and covered the 440-yard sprint in 21.56 seconds, returning $9.60 for the win.
SLM Big Daddy will make his next start in the $300,000 Champion of Champions Dec. 21 at Los Alamitos.
