Lasers Light Up Xplosion to End Six-Game Skid
Charlotte Smith scored 18 points and Kedra Holland-Corn had 16 as the sharp-shooting San Jose Lasers beat the Colorado Xplosion, 93-73, on Saturday night at Denver before 2,867 to end a six-game losing streak.
Clariss Machanguana had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Sheri Sam also scored 11 points for the Lasers (2-6), who set ABL records for shooting percentage in a half and quarter.
San Jose shot 71.1% (20-for-27) in the first half and 92.3% (12-for-13) in the second quarter. The Lasers shot 67.3% overall, just short of the ABL mark of 67.4% set last season by Columbus.
Columbus 87, Atlanta 61--Katie Smith scored 26 points as the defending ABL champion Quest won easily at Columbus, Ohio, before 2,862.
Shannon Johnson added 16 points for the Quest (6-2) and Tonya Edwards had 14 for the Glory.
New England 77, Philadelphia 75--Carolyn Jones made two free throws with 22 seconds left to lift the Blizzard at Hartford, Conn., before 10,873.
Portland 94, Seattle 57--Val Whiting led Seattle in points (11) and rebounds (7) but the team lost before 5,015 at Seattle.
