Development Plan Draws Opposition

Share

Residents are opposing a proposed assisted living center for senior citizens off Santa Rosa Road, saying it would violate their privacy and lower their property values.

The Camarillo Planning Commission is set to hold a public hearing at 7:30 tonight on the Brighton Gardens Senior Citizen Assisted Living Facility.

Allen White of Carissa Court said more than 200 eastern Camarillo residents are opposed to the three-story, 159-bed project, to be built next to Santa Rosa Plaza.

White and other Carissa Court residents maintain that people on the third floor of the building would be able to look into their yards. They say real estate agents have told them their property values could instantly fall by $20,000 to $30,000 if the project is approved.

Assistant Planning Director Robert Burrows, however, said such a sharp decline in values is unlikely.
