NIGHT OF BROKEN GLASS: North Glendale United Methodist Church will observe the 59th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the night of broken glass, when Nazis attacked Jewish homes, businesses and synagogues--an event some scholars believe was the beginning of “the final solution to the Jewish question”--at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at the church, 1015 N. Central Ave., Glendale. At the service, Pierre Sauvage, writer, producer and director of the award-winning film “Weapons of the Spirit,” will discuss how his family escaped Nazi persecution after taking refuge in a French village. CARE FOR THE SOUL: Therapist Carolyn Roberts will present a one-day retreat, “Care for the Soul,” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Retreat Center, 4316 Lanai Road, Encino. DISCUSSIONS ON HERESY: “What Is Heresy and What Does My Faith Tradition Tell Me About Confronting It?”--a free two-part inter-religious panel discussion--will be sponsored by the Valley Interfaith Council at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5338 White Oak Ave., Encino. Moderated by Rabbi Aaron Kriegel of Temple Ner Maarav in Encino, panelists will include representatives of the Bahai, Greek Orthodox, Reform Jewish, Orthodox Jewish and Islamic faiths.
