A 23-year-old Simi Valley man suspected of driving a stolen car was arrested after crashing into a parked vehicle while being chased by police, authorities said.

The incident began at 5:35 p.m. Saturday when a Simi Valley police officer spotted a Ford Probe that had been reported stolen the day before. The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver sped off and after a short chase the car crashed into a parked vehicle near Haven Avenue and Fitzgerald Road, authorities said.

After the crash, the driver, Randall S. Fox, jumped out of the car and fled, police said. He was caught after police dogs chased him through backyards.

Fox was being held at the Ventura County Jail on numerous counts, including suspicion of driving under the influence, vehicle theft and evading a peace officer. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

A passenger in the Ford, whom police did not identify, ran away and was not caught, police said.
