Selanne Streak Getting Serious

Share

Teemu Selanne has scored at least one goal in a career-best 10 consecutive games, the longest streak in the NHL since 1992-93.

Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux (11 and 12 games) and the Kings’ Luc Robitaille (10 games) had longer streaks in 1992-93. Selanne also had a nine-game streak that season, helping him set a league rookie record with 76 goals.

Charlie Simmer, a member of the Kings’ famed Triple Crown line, holds the longest streak in the NHL’s modern era at 13 games in 1979-80. Harry “Punch” Broadbent had a 16-game streak for the original Ottawa Senators in 1991-22.

“I don’t think so much about scoring,” said Selanne, who has 14 goals during the streak. “I’m more worried about finding a way to do some damage.”

Selanne had one goal and four other quality scoring chances in six shots on net during the Ducks’ 3-2 victory Saturday over the Vancouver Canucks. Scott Young and Ruslan Salei scored in their second consecutive games as the Ducks extended their winning streak to three.

“Teemu is starting to feel less weight on his shoulders because other guys are getting the job done,” Coach Pierre Page said.
