Planners Order Lake Shrubs Uprooted

Share

The group that operates Lake Mission Viejo was told by the Planning Commission this week to uproot shrubs planted along the lake banks.

On a 4-1 vote, the commission declared the shrubs a nuisance and ordered their removal.

However, Lake Mission Viejo Assn. officials say they will file an appeal of the decision to the City Council by today.

The dispute is centered over a 1,500-foot stretch of the lake along Alicia Parkway near Marguerite Parkway where the Lake Mission Viejo Assn. has planted young bushes. City officials say the bushes eventually will block views of the lake from motorists and pedestrians. They say the association won’t agree to trim the shrubs once they reach fence height.

Lake officials disagree and say the city also wants to get rid of vegetation that has grown around the lake for many years.
