Costa Mesa Routs Backpedaling Laguna Beach, 51-0

NEWPORT BEACH — Costa Mesa’s defense had Laguna Beach stuck in reverse all night Thursday and the result was a 51-0 Pacific Coast League victory at Newport Harbor.
The Artists (0-10, 0-5), who scored only 41 points this season, were held to minus-26 yards of total offense.
Steve Herzog was the offensive star for the Mustangs (9-1, 4-1), who finish the regular season in second place. Herzog rushed 13 times for 133 yards and four first-half touchdowns. Herzog scored three times in the first quarter on runs of four, 13 and 33 yards.
His fourth touchdown, a seven-yard run, gave Costa Mesa a 28-0 halftime lead.
A one-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Cleveland from Ronnie Lievanos in the third quarter gave Costa Mesa a 35-0 lead. Ben Felter added a two-yard touchdown run in the quarter.
