Event Seeks to Spur Public Use of Parkland
Several hundred residents are expected to gather Sunday in Malibu Creek State Park to help raise public awareness of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
At the first “Hands Across the Parklands” project, local residents plan to hold hands and form the outline of a giant hand in preparation for a larger demonstration April 19, said Catherine Saunders, spokeswoman for the National Park Service.
The goal of the 1 p.m. event is to increase the use of the 150,000-acre recreation area, which stretches roughly from the Hollywood Bowl to Leo Carrillo Beach, she said.
