St. Peter Claver Church to Hold Boutique
St. Peter Claver Church’s fifth annual holiday boutique is set for today and Sunday in Simi Valley. The boutique will offer various handmade items, and Santa will be on hand to pose for pictures with children. Saturday’s hours are 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Temple Etz Chaim Sisterhood Plans Sale
Temple Etz Chaim Sisterhood will host a holiday boutique from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Gifts, toys, clothing, jewelry and kosher hot dogs and knishes will be available.

Alternative Christmas Market Provides Aid
* An alternative Christmas market will be sponsored by Camarillo United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.
Habitat for Humanity International, SERRV, Camarillo Hospice, Project Understanding, Operation Warmup and UNICEF will participate.
“Purchase a gift or make a donation and you will provide hope, shelter, dignity and income for people in need around the world,” said secretary Patricia Carroll.

Ventura School to Hold Crafts Boutique
* The public is invited to a holiday crafters’ boutique Sunday at Our Lady of the Assumption School in Ventura.
“We’re looking for crafters interested in displaying their items,” said Sister Rebekah at the school. “The event should draw not only from the 200 school families, but also from worshipers before and after Masses. It should give artisans plenty of exposure.”

N.J. Professor to Speak at Cal Lutheran
* “Mujerista Theology: A Theology for the 21st Century,” is the Monday topic in Cal Lutheran University’s fall lecture series. Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz will offer theological reflections on the experiences of Latina and Hispanic women in the United States.
“She argues that their experience generates a shift away from more traditional theologies,” said CLU spokeswoman Lynda Fulford. Isasi-Diaz is an associate professor in the school of theology at Drew University in New Jersey.

Dialogue to Focus on Impact of the Media
* The media’s impact on Christians and on how Christian congregations and faith communities plan and carry out ministries will be the focus of a dialogue in the salon room of the Theology Library at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo on Wednesday. The public is welcome.
“A second focus will be the way media coverage of the millennium is affecting our faith and values as Christians and as a society,” said Verne Herbruck of the Ventura County Council of Churches, which sponsors the dialogues.
Lunch, at $5, will be available in the college refectory to participants, beginning at 12:15 p.m. The seminary is at 5012 E. Seminary Road.
Fund-Raising Musical to Benefit Disabled
* Ventura’s First Baptist Church will stage a fund-raising musical extravaganza Friday for Rainbow Acres, a residential community ministry for mentally and physically disabled adults in Camp Verde, Ariz.
Featured performers will be the trio Go Fish. Other musicians include Rainbow Acres Spiritual Blend choir, the Giacopuzzi Family, a local bluegrass group and soloist Bob Shepherd, who has sung the national anthem for the past 20 years at the American Baptist Churches of the Pacific Southwest night at Dodger Stadium.
Rainbow Acres is affiliated with American Baptist Churches of the USA and American Baptist Churches of the Pacific Southwest.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. event are $5 each or $15 per family, and are available at any American Baptist Church in Ventura County or at the door.

Programs Fair and Hanukkah Sale at Temple
* Ventura’s Temple Beth Torah will host a Jewish programs fair and a Hanukkah boutique from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 23 at the temple’s Meister Hall.
Representatives from local Jewish community organizations will offer an array of gifts, crafts, a Judaica shop, gift wrapping, door prizes and Hanukkah refreshments such as latkes and jelly doughnuts. Information on programs for all ages, ranging from Israel trips to Elderhostels and overnight camps, will be featured, said Sue Flam, local president of Women of Reform Judaism.

Church Will Celebrate Acceptance Rites
* St. Paschal Baylon Church in Thousand Oaks will celebrate the rite of acceptance for catechumens and the rite of welcoming for candidates enrolled in the rite of Christian Initiation for Adults at the 10:45 a.m. Mass on Nov. 23.

Ventura School Invites Grandparents to Visit
* In honor of Grandparents’ Day, Our Lady of the Assumption School in Ventura will host an informal bring-your-own lunch and classroom visit Nov. 24 for elder family members. Grandparents will eat lunch with their grandchildren and meet their school friends. Later, they can visit classrooms to greet teachers and watch classroom interaction.
Grandparents will be welcome from the noon lunch hour through the end of the school day at 2:30 p.m.

Thanksgiving Day Mass Will Be Bilingual
* St. Paschal Baylon Church in Thousand Oaks will celebrate a bilingual Mass on Thanksgiving Day at 9:30 a.m. Those participating are encouraged to bring their holiday dinner, bread and wine to be placed before the altar for a special blessing, said Barbara Durand of the church.
