A man suspected of robbing a bank Friday was arrested after being found watching a big-screen TV in a motel lobby nearby as he waited for his taxicab to arrive, police said.

About 4:15 p.m., a man entered Great Western Bank on Yorba Linda Boulevard and gave a teller a note demanding $3,000, police said. He ran off, but an officer a mile away spotted him, Fullerton Police Lt. Tony Hernandez said.

Officers found the suspect, Donnie Lee Jones, 39, of Fullerton, in the lobby of the Chase Suites on Nutwood Avenue, Hernandez said. He was holding a wad of $50 and $100 bills, police said.

“You can tell that cab to leave. He’s waiting for me,” Jones told the officers, according to Hernandez.

When officers booked him into jail, they noted on Jones’ property receipt that he had no money. He protested, Hernandez said, reminding the officers that he had cash when they found him.
