SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Michael Woods rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns in 13 carries for Littlerock, which clinched its first playoff berth since 1992 with a convincing 27-7 victory over Quartz Hill in a Golden League game Friday night.

Woods scored on runs of 24 and three yards in the first half to give his team a 14-7 lead, then scored his 12th touchdown of the season on a 57-yard run early in the third quarter. He set up his second touchdown with a 45-yard scamper on the third play of a four-play, 62-yard drive.

Myles Meeden completed seven of 11 passes for 44 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Dibene in the fourth quarter.

After Meeden fumbled a snap on the Lobos’ second drive, the Rebels recovered and drove 46 yards in nine plays to take a 7-0 lead on Hiram Johnson’s two-yard run late in the first quarter.

“We came out a little flat,” Meeden said, “But when they scored first, that woke us up.”

David Newton gained 99 yards in 16 carries, and Meeden added 40 yards in seven carries for Littlerock (7-3, 3-2 in league play), which finished third in the league behind Palmdale and Antelope Valley.

“We have four or five tailbacks who could start for any team in [the Antelope Valley],” Meeden said. “We rotate them all in at the beginning, and whoever is hot--that’s who gets the ball most.”

Johnson led Quartz Hill (3-6-1, 0-4-1) with 48 yards in 16 carries. Erik Holtfreter completed eight of 16 passes for 65 yards for the Rebels. Dibene caught four passes for 33 yards for Littlerock, and Derrick Hammers made seven solo tackles.

Quartz Hill’s leading rusher, David Fetters, was used primarily as a decoy. He caught one pass for seven yards and did not run the ball.
