School District Replacing Old Buses

Share

A fleet of new school buses is coming to the Saddleback Valley Unified School District.

The district plans to sell 22 old buses built before 1977 after receiving a state grant recently that covers 37% of the cost to replace the outdated vehicles. The old buses are valued at $22,800, and half the sale price must be returned to the state.

The one-time grant was established to remove from schools statewide an estimated 1,200 buses that are at least 20 years old.

Saddleback will receive $777,474 toward the purchase of the 22 new buses.

Last year, the district purchased the first five new buses.

The additional 17 buses will be purchased over the next 30 months from A-Z Bus Sales Inc.
