Fire Produces Heavy Smoke, No Injuries
IRVINE —
A compost pile caught fire at a processing center early Sunday, producing thick smoke that was visible from a distance, firefighters said. No injuries were reported.
Most of the material involved came from wood shavings, tree trimmings and related waste, officials said.
About 15 firefighters responded to the 4:13 a.m. blaze at Pacific Waste Management, in the 7900 block of Irvine Boulevard. The fire was contained Sunday afternoon.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
