Latino Group Honors Community Leaders
United Neighborhoods, a Latino activist group, celebrated its first anniversary with an awards ceremony last week at the Placentia American Legion Hall.
Those honored included Gil and Susie Flores of the League of United Latin American Citizens, who were presented with leadership awards.
The civic participation award was given to the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
Community leadership awards went to Teresa Garcia and Maria Sanchez, from the Jeffrey-Lynne neighborhood in Anaheim; and Maria Elena Gonzales, from Emerald Springs apartment complex in Anaheim.
Others recognized were attorneys Marc C. Block, John Cogorno and Dave Elders with social justice awards; and a friendship award was given to the Rev. Maurice Ogden and the Unitarian Church of Orange County.
