Hellman Ranch Suit Rejected by High Court
The California Supreme Court has refused to hear a case filed by Mola Development Co. against Seal Beach officials over a controversial development plan.
Mola filed an $11-million lawsuit in 1990 alleging the city violated company property rights by denying a 329-home development on Hellman Ranch property. After dismissals in local trial and appellate courts, the state Supreme Court rejected the developer’s petition for a hearing last week.
“The company has said they will petition the U.S. Supreme Court,” Seal Beach City Atty. Quinn Barrow said. “They have 90 days to file the petition.”
The Costa Mesa-based development company couldn’t be reached for comment.
The City Council earlier this year approved 70 homes and an 18-hole golf course on the Seal Beach Boulevard parcel between Pacific Coast Highway and Westminster Avenue.
