Texas, Arkansas Make Coaching Changes
Two coaches whose teams finished with 4-7 records, Texas’ John Mackovic and Arkansas’ Danny Ford, were out of jobs Saturday.
Mackovic, who had an up-and-down six years at Texas, was fired one day after the Longhorns lost, 27-16, at Texas A&M.; Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds said the three years remaining on Mackovic’s guaranteed contract, which pays about $600,000 per year, will be honored. Mackovic will be assigned an undetermined new position, Dodds said.
Ford, who had a five-year run at Arkansas and produced a 26-30-1 record, was forced to resign. The Razorbacks lost to Louisiana State, 31-21, on Friday. Ford has three years remaining on his Arkansas contract, but neither he Ford nor Athletic Director Frank Broyles were available for comment.
