MY FAVORITE WEEKEND

Lucinda Carver, director and conductor of the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, which begins its season Saturday.

Late Night Dining: Most of the time I like to go out for a late supper after performances when I’m usually too tired to cook. Pinot Hollywood has a wonderful room in the back by the bar with overstuffed couches. The great thing is that they serve late. That’s always a great discovery for musicians because that’s when we eat.

Down Time: I love to spend Saturday afternoons in my hammock. I have a walled-in garden in the Hollywood Hills. I’ll sit under one of my old trees that date back to 1915. There are bird feeders around, so I can read or listen to birds. I usually end up with a dog on the hammock with me.

Up Time: One of my favorite things to do is to go flying. I love to take flying lessons and fly along the coast up to Santa Paula or San Luis Obispo if I have the time. I don’t have a license. I guess I’m a Sunday pilot, like a Sunday driver.

Literary Pursuits: I’m in the midst of reading a biographical study of Virginia Woolf and her sister, Vanessa Bell. I love to read diaries, letters and correspondences. Shopping for books is very dangerous for me. I can spend a lot of money. I tend to end up in used book stores mostly, but I also like Book Soup.

Musical Menagerie: I enjoy getting up and practicing the piano on Sundays. I have dogs and cats under the piano, and it’s quite a menagerie. I open all the windows and luckily, the neighbors are very nice about my practicing.
