Luggage Store Lets You Pack In Savings on Quality Merchandise
Luggage for Less, whose North Hollywood store was mentioned in this column in July, has opened two more stores--one in Brentwood and another in Woodland Hills.
When Fred Cohen took over the business in 1993, he shifted the store’s focus from low-end, very inexpensive luggage to high-end products at discounted prices. His success is another testimonial to the fact that it’s the people with bucks who shop for deals.
Whatever your budget allows, chances are you’ll find something here to fill your traveling needs. A top-quality Boyt ballistic (because when you shoot a bullet into it the hole doesn’t spread) nylon four-suiter garment bag that sells at many sources for $349 is a cool $199.99.
If your taste runs to a Samsonite Piggyback, the world’s most popular suitcase, and you don’t want to pay retail of $300, there’s a sizable savings here. Try $99.99.
And if you need it all, there’s a three-piece set (can’t give you the brand) which includes a 29-inch case, a 26-inch case and a 20-inch carry-on for $99.99 as opposed to $225 at many stores.
Almost all luggage these days is on wheels . . . even a computer backpack for $54.99; you may have seen it elsewhere for $125.
Why are the prices at Luggage for Less so much lower than at other stores? “It’s simple,” says Cohen. “High volume and low markup. Besides, if I raised my prices I’d have to change the name of the store.”
