Voter Registration Deadline Approaches

Ventura County elections officials are reminding residents that Monday is the deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 4 election.

To register, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on or before election day and must have been a California resident for 29 days before the election.

Residents can pick up registration cards at city halls, libraries, fire stations, post offices and the state Department of Motor Vehicles, officials said.

Applications for absentee ballots can be found on the back page of sample ballots distributed to voters this week. They can also be obtained in person or by sending a written request to the Elections Division, County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura CA 93009. Applications by mail must be received by Oct. 28.

Voters can obtain absentee ballots in person at the elections office up to the day of the election, with the option of immediately casting their ballots in the office.

For more information, voters can call the Ventura County Elections Division office at 654-2664. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The November ballot will see Thousand Oaks voters deciding whether to recall Councilwoman Elois Zeanah, as their Ventura counterparts cast ballots in four council races.

Voters in the Rio Elementary, Conejo Valley, Ojai and Moorpark unified school districts will be asked to increase their taxes to pay for school improvements. Voters in Moorpark will also decide whether they will pay additional taxes to maintain the city’s 13 parks.
