Meeting to Examine Newport Coast Impact on Growth of Schools
More than 300 children could enroll in Laguna Beach schools as a result of development along Newport Coast, prompting a school board meeting Tuesday to discuss the growth.
Parents can learn more about a proposed agreement between the developer, the Irvine Co., and the Laguna Beach Unified School District, Supt. Reed Montgomery said Wednesday. The issues include what it would cost to add classrooms and how much tax revenue the development between Laguna Beach and Newport Beach would generate for operating expenses.
“This will be a chance to lay out all the issues and all the ramifications,” Montgomery said.
Trustees will make a final decision in coming months about whether to accept the 342 students expected when the land is fully developed, he said.
The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at El Morro Elementary School, 8681 N. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach.
