‘Heroes of Diversity’ to Be Recognized

The Ventura County Cultural Diversity Board will hold its second annual awards banquet Thursday to honor four groups and 10 individuals as “Heroes of Diversity.”

Chosen for their commitment to promoting multicultural awareness, this year’s honorees are Harry Lee, director of the Ventura County Leadership Academy; Bill Thrasher, vice principal of Oxnard High School; Lester Goldberg, a senior volunteer who helps feed the homeless; attorney Tina L. Rasnow, community activist; Teresa Elenes, a social worker who works on immigration issues; physician M. David Lewis, co-founder of the international “Make a Difference Foundation”; attorney Charles Cohen, who works on providing affordable housing; Cliff Rodrigues, educator, who helped coordinate bilingual education; Ron Golden, who worked to protect the health care rights of patients of Camarillo State Hospital, and the Rev. Beth Ann Suggs, a Unity Church pastor who promotes human rights.

Four county groups will also receive awards.

The 6:30 p.m. dinner will be held at the Mandalay Beach Hotel in Oxnard.
